News of Orchestra Members and Orchestra Information

Orchestra News From 2008

The response to our advertising initiative has been fantastic! By visiting local fetes and chatting to local people about what we do, we have been able to recruit some superb players and keen supporters of the orchestra.  Our performances are improving with every concert and this is reflected by growing audience numbers. Hopefully, next year, we will be able to incorporate some free live music to our schedule as well as our usual indoor concerts.

New Rehearsal Venue

In September we decided, after some deliberation, that it was time to move our rehearsals to Hounsdown School where it is warmer and brighter.  We are very grateful to the church for the past 20 years use of the premises and we will continue to hold some concerts and occasional rehearsals there. To show our gratitude, we will be donating the profits from next year’s October concert to the Church Hall Fund.

Katie

Congratulations to Liz and family on the birth of their daughter Katie in October 2007. Another beautiful addition to the family.

Hugh Gordon

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of Hugh Gordon, who died suddenly on the 8th September 2007. Hugh was a long-serving member of the orchestra, who was also well known in Hampshire as a double bass player. Hugh not only played with Marchwood Orchestra, but also with several other ensembles in which he could indulge in his great love of making music. He will be missed very much by us all.
